Take a Beer and Spirits Tour Through Northfield

Northfield is a bustling town for those who enjoy adult beverages. Quality establishments offering tasty drinks have doubled in the past two years with the opening of Fielder’s Choice Tap & Table, Loon Liquors, Imminent Brewing, Keepsake Cidery and Tanzenwald Brewing Company. So, come to town and enjoy as the locals do and, of course, do so responsibly.

Please drink responsibly and always use a designated driver.

Imminent Brewing

Opening in June 2017, Imminent Brewing is the freshest establishment on the scene, conveniently located on the south side of downtown Northfield. This production brewery and taproom offers a wide-range of high-quality beers made on site. Housed in the former garage area (think big!) of the National Guard Armory, owners Randy and Tonja Clay and Derek and Laura Meyers have done a beautiful job remodeling the space. If you happen to travel by bike, there is plenty of bike racks out front.

Fielder’s Choice Tap & Table

Head south on Highway 3 to Fielder’s Choice Tap & Table for a mix of fantastic food and to browse the 36 beers on tap, most of which are Minnesota-made beers. Opened for more than a year, Fielder’s has quickly become a favorite of locals for the quality and rotating menu, as well as the beers and cocktails crafted behind the bar.

Loon Liquors

Speaking of quality cocktails, Northfield’s very own distillery, Loon Liquors, has a cocktail room open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Visit owners Simeon Rossi and Mark Schiller and try out their house-made cocktails from their very own, award-winning organic whiskey, gin, vodka and coffee liqueur. The duo uses many local ingredients and create their own recipes and are bound to leave you with a hard choice for which cocktail to enjoy.

Tanzenwald Brewing Company

Opening in April 2017, Tanzenwald Brewing Company was the first brewery to open in Northfield, reinvigorating a long-abandoned creamery on Highway 3 South. Not only does co-owner Steve Pittman push out a great variety of tasty beers, his wife and co-owner of Tanzenwald, Jenaveve Bell Pittman, has the kitchen hitting on all cylinders. Stop in and enjoy a beer and a house-made sausage and one of the delectable side dishes, and enjoy the beauty of the space that the two have crafted.

Froggy Bottoms River Pub

Wrap up your Northfield tour by heading to a longtime favorite watering hole of locals, Froggy Bottoms River Pub, which is only two blocks from Tanzenwald. Nestled on the west side of the Cannon River, both the traditional patio downstairs (right along the river), or the Lily PADio upstairs, offer a great view of the activity waterside. Known for its Bloody Mary, Froggy Bottoms has a recently-expanded craft beer tap selection and creates tasty cocktails with the best of them. You can’t beat the view.

Chapel Brewing
Nestled along the east bank of the Cannon River in Dundas, Chapel Brewing sits on a site that has hosted a jail, a chapel, a Sunday school, the Bridgewater Township town hall, and a photography studio. Chapel Brewing specializes in American-style ales and have a wide variety of beers on tap at any given time.  We recommend getting a flight to discover for yourself which of their brews is your favorite!

Keepsake Cidery
From planting the trees, to picking, pressing, fermenting, and bottling the folks at Keepsake Cidery are hands on throughout the entire process.  Featuring natural ciders made with all local apples and old world methods. They are open for private events and special pop-up openings during Winter. Open weekends May through November.

Spend a night

Even visiting two or three of these five stops on the tour will keep you plenty busy all day. Don’t let the fun stop. Enjoy the moment into the night and then stay in one of the conveniently located lodging options in downtown, along Highway 3 or one of the bed and breakfast options in the city.
