“Back in March 2015 we shot a thriller in and around St. Paul area [Girl Missing] and fell in love with the local crew, cast and locations. We didn’t know when an opportunity would arise to bring us back, but we knew given a chance we’d be shooting here again.
My wife Lori [co-producer] grew up in New Prague and when she read the script for Last Love Letter she knew we had to take the director to Northfield to scout.
On our last film we were able to utilize the 20% cash rebate which allowed us to shoot here in St. Paul and Duluth. MarVista was surprised at how easy the whole rebate process went on the first film and was happy to send us to scout in Minnesota for this next project in December 2015. The director, Brian Herzlinger, immediately fell in love with the town.
The people of Northfield could not have been more excited and helpful in the process of securing the locations and the look of our fictional town. The writer/director was so impressed that he changed the fictional name in the script to Northfield, MN. The Northfield Chamber of Commerce has also been amazingly helpful and instrumental in making this film happen. Now all we need is the snow.” — Mike Leahy January 7, 2016
